How To Have a Breakthrough Prayer Life
By: Roberts Liardon
Prayer is one of the most written about and discussed topics in Christianity, but few actually do it. If you don’t pray, you’re not going to prevail in today’s world. Prayer brings the power you need to get through the challenges of everyday life.
Some people say, “I do pray.” But the question is, how are you praying? Are your prayers bearing fruit? Many Christians get down on their knees, fold their hands and try to look like holy praying saints, but they never get their prayers answered. It’s sad that people keep praying the same way year after year and never get answers to their prayers. If your not getting answers to your prayers, then you should consider changing the way you‘re praying.
In James 5:16 we read:
“The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” James 5:16 (KJV)
Here we see three things that cause prayers to avail much. One, prayers have to be effectual. Two, they have to be fervent and three, they have come from a righteous man.
To pray effectually means to pray effectively or correctly. When you don’t receive answers to your prayers, it’s probably because you’re not praying correctly.
The prayer that is the most abused in the Bible is the prayer that begins with the words: “If it be thy will.” The devil loves that prayer and he will even help you pray it! More people get confused about the “If it be thy will” prayer than any other prayer in the Bible.
If you pray “if it be thy will” all the time, it’s because you don’t know God’s will. You either don’t read your Bible or you go to a church that doesn’t teach the Bible correctly.
If you pray for a sick person with the words, “If it be thy will,” you are ignorant of 1 Peter 2:24 which says: “by whose stripes you were healed.” If you pray: “If it be thy will” when you’re asking for prosperity, then you don’t know 3 John 1:2 which says: “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.”
It IS God’s will to heal and prosper you! God wants you to have a healthy body, a nice house and a car that runs on petrol and not just on faith!
There are a few occasions where you need specific details from the mind of the Holy Spirit, but ninety-five percent of the will of God can be discovered by reading the Bible.
An “Attitude” Of Prayer
Another wrong type of prayer that people hold to is “the attitude of prayer.” There is no such thing as an attitude of prayer in the Bible! Either you pray or you don’t pray. Sometimes people think that if they keep a religious mindset, God will receive it as a prayer. He won’t! That’s why many people don’t get their prayers answered.
People who walk around with a religious attitude have a false sense of accomplishment. They say. “Well, I’m just praying on the inside.” But if the situation and circumstances allow for you to pray out loud, then you should open your mouth and pray. The early church didn’t pray with a whisper, they opened their mouth and boldly called out to God.
Some people say, “I’m always in the Spirit so I don’t have to pray out loud.” Paul was always in the Spirit too, but he still had to lift up his voice and pray.
We’ve got to get rid of these dumb religious ideas if we want to see our prayer life grow and progress!
