People of faith are the greatest warriors in the world. I grew up surrounded by them. Not only was I taught the Word and the power of the Holy Spirit at home, but my hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma, was like an open Heaven on Earth at that time. Believers brought the power of the Gospel to gas stations, grocery stores, public and private schools – nearly every square mile was alive with the life of God. We defeated darkness with God’s light.
Christians of all colors and backgrounds plugged into the Word of God and worshipped together. We lived our lives so the Holy Spirit could move freely and use us to save, heal, and deliver people. Believers who visited Tulsa didn’t want to leave. Many who came to go to Bible school never left. Those who returned to their part of the world spread the great light and joy they had received. That was almost a generation ago and, sad to say, Tulsa is not the same. Is that a bad thing? Yes and No.
Yes, we miss the way it was sometimes; but no, we can’t go back because God is doing a new thing. We don’t know exactly what that looks like, but we know how to fight in the Spirit for a great awakening and know what that looks like: Revelation of God’s Word is the foundation of our lives. The Holy Spirit moves in powerful, unusual ways. Multitudes are saved, healed, and delivered from demons. Families are restored. Businesses thrive. Entire cities and nations move out of darkness into the light through the glorious peace of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Let’s not look at the evil and corruption in our nations and long for “the good old days.” Let’s move forward with great faith! Hard times produce fearful cowards or courageous heroes, and we are in hard times. We must decide who we will be. I say, “Let us be like Joshua and have a good courage to fight the good fight of faith, to take the territory Jesus bought with His precious blood!” If not us, then who? We are the only ones who carry the transforming power of God!
“Upon this rock [the revelation that Jesus is the Messiah and Son of God] I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.”
Matthew 16:18-19 NASB [insert mine]
